| Hypnotherapy Uncovered (F.A.Q's)What is Hypnosis?Hypnosis (or trance) is not sleep, it is not magic, it is not unconsciousness. It is the Alpha state, a state of deep relaxation and focussed concentration.
Can I be made to do something against my will while under hypnosis?Absolutely not. Your mind will simply not accept any ideas or concepts that it does not deem to be beneficial. A hypnotherapist has no control whatsoever over your mind and can not make anyone do anything that is against their morals or beliefs. If you want to get up and leave the room mid session nothing or no one would be able to stop you. You retain complete control. Will I speak when under hypnosis? Speaking is not always necessary. Occasionally I may ask you some simple questions but most of my clients seldom speak when in trance. Will I remember what you have said to me when under hypnosis? The majority of my clients remember everything that has been said and done under hypnosis. You will remember everything that you want to remember. Some clients who are comfortable going into a deeper trance may have partial or even total memory loss. Will you be able to hypnotise me? The vast majority of people can be hypnotised easily, after all it is a natural state that you go into a number of times a day such as when preparing for sleep, learning, or day dreaming. Those with an adequate attention span, intelligence and a co-operative attitude rarely experience difficulty. The few who cannot be hypnotised are those who do not want to be or those who cannot concentrate because of very low IQ or certain brain disorders. How deeply you go into hypnosis varies for each individual but it does not really matter, hypnosis can be beneficial even at a very light level. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, in hypnotherapy the therapist acts simply as a guide.
What happens during a session? There is no set formula as I tailor each session to the individual, but as a general guide we would begin the session by discussing your progress from the previous week, revising how the mind functions and focusing on what you wish to achieve. You would then spend some time on the couch, relaxing to soothing music while my voice guides you into trance. Once in trance I will start to give you beneficial suggestions, both directly and indirectly, that your subconscious will act upon. How many sessions will I need? Hypnotherapy is a brief solution-focussed therapy, therefore I aim to see clients for the shortest time possible. The exact number of sessions depends on the problem and the individual. How much will it cost? Go to Contact & Costs. What do I need to do next? Firstly, you need to make a firm decision that you want to make changes and improvements in your life Secondly, call or email me (see Contact & Costs) to arrange a free initial consultation and find out how hypnotherapy can help you.
